Namibia Edition 3 - Sept 2018

Hello again as we farewell rugged, harsh and spectacular Namibia.  We heard about so many of the desert adapted animals and of course the people.  Think we need to do some work on our desert compatibility.  Saw cheetahs up close and personal before arriving back in Windhoek safe and sound after covering around 3,500 kms.  No flats, sinker dents or damage except for the hole in the main fuel tank.  Lucky diesel doesn’t catch fire, or does it?

Further learnings:

* Namibia is an excellent place to do the washing

* Why are Namibian and South African powerpoints all upside down, by comparison the toilets flush the same way as Australia, you know clockwise

* If you’re coming to either of these countries the power adaptor advice on the internet isn’t reliable as far as I’ve experienced

* There seems to be a contest between the lodges for the largest room key ring, with the front runner being Frans Indongo Lodge having one approaching the size Magnetic Island

* Lodge owners also like a tower with perhaps a medieval castle theme

*  Actually saw a couple of private castles under construction.  Being such renown property investors, as you can all attest, we can recommend several places where you can secure your own little piece of retro feudal Namibia

* Now I hope you might have picked up on the rest area theme.  For many of you who surely would like to know more we’ll soon publish on our website a comprehensive and detailed research piece around Namibian roadside rest areas, the likes of which is unlikely to be seen again.  This monogramed, award winning and highly sought after 100 plus page volume is available for one bottle of the 2010 Grange, subject to stocks.

* Escape from Villa Violet - as one parting adventure we had to be up very early to meet a car at 4am, however couldn’t get out of the electrified compound surrounding the hotel as the security guard on duty was asleep.  I devised a plan to scale an interior wall, slip through a small gap in the electrified fence and leap down about 4 metres to freedom.  Then, throw the bags over and catch Brenda when she jumped.  This plan didn’t exactly receive resounding endorsement and I’ll admit might have needed enhanced risk assessment, indeed some risk assessment.  By the time I was ready to action the plan the driver had Googled the emergency number for the hotel and woke up the guard.  Might have over/under thought that one…

I’m working on the demand for photos/proof.  Will probably use Google Drive for the vast majority as well as a “curated” selection on Instagram.  Should be able to get it working by the time we go to the Maldives next year.

Next up, Mozambique
